Scleral Lens for “Regular” Corneas
Visionary Optics has released the Elara Scleral lens, which offers a prolate geometry to fit “regular” corneas. Its features are designed to provide essential hydration, comfort, and vision.
Visionary Optics says the Elara Scleral lens is indicated for patients who have ocular surface disease with or without a dry eye component and for patients who have failed with traditional GP or soft lenses, especially if they have astigmatism or high refractive error.
The lenses are available with base curves from 42.00D to 52.00D, a 15.5mm diameter, sphere powers made to order, cylinder powers from –0.25D to –15.00D in 0.25D steps, and axes from 1° to 180° in 1° steps. Changes to the standard parameters are unnecessary for most cases. Sports Tinted Scleral Lens Enters Market
The Orion Vision Group launched the BioSport Sclera, the first rigid scleral sports tinted contact lens, at the recent Global Specialty Lens Symposium in Las Vegas. The company says that BioSport Sclera is an excellent alternative for rigid lens wearers who require protection from the sun’s glare and ultraviolet light and, at the same time, want the stability and comfort of a scleral lens.
The BioSport Sclera is being manufactured in the Lagado Tyro-97 (hofocon A, Dk of 97) UV material because of the materials’ exceptional wettability, flexural strength, and optical quality, according to Orion Vision Group. Lens parameters include diameters of 13.0mm to 18.2mm; base curves on the 16.3mm diameter lens of 6.00mm to 9.40mm, which translates to sagittal values of 3.50mm to 6.00mm in 0.50mm steps; and sphere powers of +25.00D to –25.00D in 0.25D steps, with toric and multifocal options available, including cylinder powers of –0.25D to –6.00D with axes in 1º increments.
A nine-lens diagnostic set is available with a standard diameter of 16.3mm. BioSport is now available in #3 dark gray; other colors being tested include brown, amber, and x-blue. The tint zone is edge-to-edge only. The company says that the lens has performed well for tennis and soccer players, and it is expected to perform well for athletes involved in baseball, football, and running. Smartphone Helps with Keratoconus Fitting

According to the company, practitioners will select and apply one of five diagnostic lenses, instill fluorescein, and capture and email a photo and an over-refraction to its consultation team, who will then do the rest of the process.
The ComfortKone QuickFit System is a product update. Call (800) 223-1858 or visit www.metro-optics.com.
New Hypochlorous Acid Alternatives Available
Ocusoft, Inc. recently announced the availability of Ocusoft HypoChlor, a 0.02% concentration of hypochlorous acid in both spray and gel formulation that can be used to supplement the company’s existing Ocusoft Lid Scrub family of eyelid cleansers in the most severe cases.
The company also wished to better clarify the role of hypochlorous acid in managing eyelid care. Ocusoft says that the FDA requires that hypochlorous acid is registered as a medical device, which may be marketed by the filing company as either a prescription (Rx) or over-the-counter (OTC) product. The basis of Rx versus OTC relies on the claims that can be made of the product rather than ingredient concentration. Generally, the Rx versus OTC has nothing to do with percentage of principle ingredient, according to the company.
Ocusoft also says that hypochlorous acid formulas do not contain the surfactants found in other eyelid hygiene products and thus are largely ineffective in debriding the oil, scales, and debris often associated with eyelid irritations.
Accordingly, in the most severe cases in which hypochlorous acid might be most beneficial, it is suggested to use combination therapy including both a surfactant cleanser and hypochlorous acid to achieve optimum results. Call (800) 233-5469 or visit www.ocusoft.com.

Clompus Consulting Group provides coaching while recording the message using the latest internet digital technology, so the message sounds more clear compared to a phone-based recording, according to the company.
