As we continue to celebrate 40 years of Contact Lens Spectrum, looking back has been a fulfilling journey studying our rich history in contact lenses. As reminded in a special commemorative edition of Contact Lens Spectrum (shown below), the regulation of contact lenses is a very interesting story in and of itself—it certainly provoked lots of discussion, particularly between differences in regulation based on contact lens material type. While the debate surrounding contact lens regulation may have evolved, the topic continues to influence how we prescribe contact lenses today.
