Independent optometrists are getting a new tool to compete against online retailers and large optical chains with the launch of ONLY One-Day Contact Lenses, a private-label brand available exclusively to members of EyecareRepublic. Additionally, Professional Eye Care Associates of America has launched a portfolio of private-label one-day contact lenses for members.
The Professional Eye Care Associates of America lenses are manufactured by CooperVision, while Eyecare Republic said "a trusted contact lens manufacturer" is behind the technology.
The new daily disposable lens line is designed to help independent ODs improve patient retention and profitability. According to ECR, the lenses are offered without subscription fees, share programs, or gross revenue-sharing requirements.
ECR said the initiative addresses a major challenge facing independent practices: patients purchasing contact lenses outside the office where they receive their eye exams. The organization cited industry data showing that 62% of patients buy lenses elsewhere.
According to ECR, ONLY lenses are not widely distributed, which the organization said may help practices avoid some of the pricing pressures associated with online discounting and mass retail competition.
The organization also pointed to broader consumer trends driving interest in private-label products. Citing research from PDG Insights, ECR said roughly 70% of consumers ages 18 to 40 reported being “excited to try new private-label products.” ECR also cited data showing that private-label brands generate more than $238 billion in sales.
ECR said ONLY One-Day Contact Lenses are not tied to large optical corporations that also distribute products through national retail chains.
