Redesigned Silicone Hydrogel Available
Bausch + Lomb has launched PureVision 2 with High Definition Optics. B+L says this new monthly lens optimizes design to reduce spherical aberration across the entire power range, which helps provide sharper vision and can reduce glare and halos. The lens blister pack includes poloxamine to help improve comfort upon application. Although one of the thinnest lenses available, which makes it more flexible than the original PureVision lens and also contributes to better comfort, B+L says that PureVision 2 with High Definition Optics maintains the same ease of handling as the original PureVision lens.
PUREVISION 2 IS OPTIMIZED TO ENHANCE VISION.
The new lens is manufactured in balafilcon A, which has a water content of 36 percent and a Dk/t of 130 (center at –3.00D). Parameters include 8.6mm base curve, 14.0mm diameter, 9.0mm optical zone at –3.00D, center thickness of 0.07mm at –3.00D, and sphere powers from +6.00D to –12.00D (0.25D steps, 0.50D steps above –6.00D). B+L will continue to support the original PureVision lens, but switching to PureVision 2 is recommended and no refitting is required. Call (800) 828-9030 or visit www.bausch.com.
Silicone Hydrogel Toric Parameter Expansion
Ciba Vision's Air Optix for Astigmatism contact lenses are now available in one of the widest in-stock parameter ranges of any silicone hydrogel toric lens, resulting in increased patient coverage from 88 percent to 99 percent, according to the company.
Ciba says that eyecare practitioners can fit most patients in Air Optix for Astigmatism contact lenses because the lens fitting characteristics and axis orientation are consistent from patient to patient. In a clinical study, 95 percent of patients were successfully fit with the first lens, and the lenses stabilize on the eye in just 30 seconds.
WIDER PARAMETER AVAILABILITY FOR AIR OPTIX FOR ASTIGMATISM.
Air Optix for Astigmatism lenses are manufactured in lotrafilcon B and have a Dk/t of 108 @ –3.00D, –1.25D x 180. They now are available in sphere powers from +6.00D to –6.00D in 0.25D steps with cylinder powers of –0.75D, –1.25D, –1.75D, and –2.25D as well as from –6.50D to –10.00D in 0.50D steps with cylinder powers of –0.75D, –1.25D, –1.75D, and –2.25D. They are available in axes around-the-clock in 10-degrees steps, have a diameter of 14.5mm and a base curve of 8.7mm, and they feature a blue visibility handling tint.
Air Optix for Astigmatism lenses are approved for daily wear, and up to six nights of extended wear, and they are recommended for monthly replacement. Call (800) 241-5999 or visit www.cibavision.com.
New Combination Medication Available
Alcon has launched its new combination anti-in-flammatory/anti-infective product, TobraDex ST suspension in the United States. TobraDex ST (to- bramycin/dexamethasone ophthalmic suspension) 0.3/ 0.05% is indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticos-teroid is indicated and where bacterial infection or risk for infection exists.
Alcon says that To-braDex ST suspension was formulated to enhance bioavailability to targeted tissues, which the company says makes it a good treatment choice for conditions such as acute blepharitis and other inflammatory conditions where an infection may also exist. It was also designed to in crease retention time on the eye.
TOBRADEX ST WAS DESIGNED TO INCREASE RETENTION TIME.
Alcon also says that TobraDex ST suspension is designed with stable suspension properties that prevent settling, thereby ensuring the desired amount of dexamethasone delivery. In addition, TobraDex ST is formulated with low viscosity in the bottle, allowing for easier dispensing. Call (800) 451-3937 or visit www.alcon.com.
