Biotrue Brand Expands With Daily Disposable
As reported in the July News Spectrum, Bausch + Lomb (B+L) recently launched its Biotrue Oneday daily disposable lenses in the new HyperGel material that the company says helps to retain moisture and the optical shape of the lens and delivers the oxygen level the open eye needs without the need for silicone. The company also says that the outer surface of the lens is designed to mimic the lipid layer of the tear film.
The FDA name of the HyperGel material is nesofilcon A. It features a water content of 78 percent, 42 Dk/t at the center for a -3.00D lens, and a modulus of 0.49mPa. Biotrue Oneday is packaged in a borate buffer solution with poloxamine and has a light blue visibility tint and UV protection. Lens parameters include 8.6mm base curve, 14.2mm diameter, optical zone of 9.0mm at -3.00D, center thickness of 0.1mm at -3.00D, and sphere powers of -0.25D to -6.25D in 0.25D steps and from -6.50D to -9.00D in 0.50D steps. B+L says that powers will soon be available up to +6.50D in 0.25D steps. Call (800) 828-9030 or visit www.bausch.com.

Broader Market for Automated Fundus Camera
Nidek, Inc. and Marco Ophthalmic recently announced the FDA 510(k) Clearance for the AFC- 330, which represents Nidek's third generation of automated fundus cameras. The company anticipates increasing its fundus camera market share with its market expansion with Marco Ophthalmic.
Nidek says that the AFC-330 greatly improves the operator and patient interface, simplicity, automation, and total practice efficiencies. This camera offers an all-in-one compact design, auto alignment on the X-Y-Z axis, and a wide range of automated features including auto stereo for Glaucoma Management, according to the manufacturer. The lower flash intensity and sound-dampening internal movements mean less retakes and improved patient comfort, according to Nidek.
While Nidek will continue to sell to the ophthalmology market in the United States, Marco will sell the Nidek AFC- 330 to the optometry market. This market expansion is to increase the distribution channels and better serve new and existing customers for both companies. Call Nidek at (800) 223-9044 or Marco at (800) 874-5274.

Bioptigen Inc. has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market its hand-held Envisu Spectral Domain Ophthalmic Imaging System (SDOIS) devices for patient use.
The Envisu SDOIS aids in the diagnosis of physiological and pathological conditions of the eye through non-contact optical imaging, according to Bioptigen. In receiving this regulatory clearance, the company says that its Envisu SDOIS became the first optical coherence tomography imaging systems commercially available in the United States for hand-held and pediatric imaging.
Envisu's ergonomic, hand-held scanner enables imaging of patients of all ages—from premature and neonatal infants to adults—whether they are upright or supine, ambulatory or confined, according to the company.
