Everything but the Kitchen Sink
BY JASON J. NICHOLS, OD, MPH, PHD, FAAO
Let’s face it, we are all bombarded with information that literally challenges our capacities to perform our day-to-day routines. There is just too much to think about in our daily lives (What dose of fish oil should I recommend to my dry eye patients?), let alone in terms of keeping up with other health-related information that more peripherally impacts us (What’s the incubation period for the Ebola virus? How many children are harmed each year from swallowing laundry detergent pods?).
Yet, it remains mission critical to our patients that we keep up-to-date in terms of our profession relative to implementing best practices in eyecare delivery. There have been many changes in the contact lens field over the last few years—new contact lens designs, materials, and care solutions, to name just a few. There also have been new technologies introduced that can help keep our patients safe, looking good, and feeling comfortable. This space includes technologies about which you might think more broadly, and it includes concepts and ideas that should help us strive to promote ocular surface wellness—something being significantly recognized by many thought leaders in the field today.
Author Kytka Hilmar-Jezek put it best when she said: “We live in the information age and the sheer volume of it being available everywhere, creates a need for information that has value.” So, how do I go about keeping up on the latest and greatest in eye and contact lens care? Some might say I am biased, but I suggest that you keep reading Contact Lens Spectrum. Our publisher strives to improve methods so we can optimize delivery of our content to you. In addition to the monthly magazine, you can view additional video content by scanning the Actable logo in specified articles (see page 37); read current and past articles on our website (www.clspectrum.com); and receive weekly updates by subscribing to Contact Lenses Today (www.cltoday.com).
If you have any ideas for improvement, we would love to hear them, so please drop us a note at clspectrum@pentavisionmedia.com and let us know what is on your mind. Happy reading, and as always, thank you for your continued support.
