SiHy Daily Disposable Makes U.S. Debut

As reported in last month’s News Spectrum, CooperVision has introduced MyDay silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lenses to the U.S. market. According to CooperVision, MyDay daily disposable lenses are made with Smart Silicone chemistry, an innovative technology that optimizes oxygen permeability in a lens that is just 4.4% silicon. By using less silicon, Smart Silicone leaves more room in the lens for built-in channels of comfort-enhancing moisture, according to CooperVision. It also enables a modulus of only 0.4 MPa.

MyDay lenses are naturally wettable, unlike surface-coated lenses, according to the company. Additionally, built-in UV protection filters 85% of UVA and 96% of UVB rays. Parameters include sphere powers from +6.00D to –10.00D (in 0.50D steps after +5.00D and –6.00D); 8.4mm base curve; 14.2mm diameter; and Dk/t of 100 (@ –3.00D). Peroxide System Designed to Provide Sustained Moisture

As reported in last month’s News Spectrum, Alcon recently launched Clear Care Plus Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution containing HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix technology, for cleaning and disinfecting contact lenses.

Clear Care Plus contains 3% hydrogen peroxide, the same as the original Clear Care; both are indicated for use with soft (hydrophilic) and GP lenses, both require six hours to neutralize the peroxide, and both are approved for lens storage after neutralization in the unopened case for up to seven days.

Clear Care Plus also contains HydraGlyde, which is also used in Alcon’s Opti-Free PureMoist solution. HydraGlyde is a surface-active agent specifically designed for all soft lenses and optimized for silicone hydrogel lenses, according to Alcon. The company says that this proprietary wetting technology surrounds soft contact lenses with lasting moisture.

Parameter Expansion for Daily Disposable Multifocal
