EDITOR’S PERSPECTIVE
HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY TO CONTACT LENS SPECTRUM!
JASON J. NICHOLS, OD, MPH, PHD, FAAO
This year, we celebrate Contact Lens Spectrum’s 30th anniversary. Thirty years is a long time in most people’s book of life. With a monthly publication like ours, that equates to 360 issues over that 30-year time frame. And, for something to not only last 30 years, but to continue to be successful over this period of time is a major accomplishment.
We are very proud of our heritage of providing the world’s premier content on contact lenses, and we are also humbled and thankful for the many esteemed people who have made our efforts possible. We simply have one thing to say to the authors, editors, managing editors, publishers, supporters, and advertisers—not to mention you, our valued readers—and that is a massive “THANK YOU!”
To celebrate the many people who have contributed to the success of Contact Lens Spectrum, we are using this particular issue to highlight many facets of the contact lens field. As you will see, in this month’s features, we are taking looks both back at our history as well as forward to where the field of contact lenses is headed.
And, while we cannot individually thank everyone who has contributed to the contact lens field over this past 30 years, we are putting the spotlight on the 30 individuals who were and continue to be most influential in contact lenses—not only through their contributions, but also relative to what they find to be most inspiring as it relates to the growth and success of contact lenses.
Typically, our September issue Editor’s Perspective (which you are reading now) is one devoted to a “Top 10” list of sorts intended to summarize the major activities or issues in contact lenses at that point in time. With a twist on that theme, we are instead broadening this approach by asking our 30 most influential honorees for their thoughts about the most important events in contact lenses that have unfolded during this 30-year period.
Finally, in honor of our anniversary, we decided to give ourselves a present—a new look. Art Director Evan Schmidt has given the magazine a facelift to ensure the updated design matches the leading-edge information inside. Now, with your help and support, we enthusiastically look forward to the future and say a hearty “Cheers!” to the next 30 years!
