The double-truncated lens was one of our earliest hard lens designs for correcting residual astigmatism. Its orientation is maintained by lid margin contact and pressure in much the same manner as today’s thin-zone soft lens design. This lens is ideal for the against-the-rule, highly astigmatic cornea often seen in the aphakic eye. Fitting a round lens about 1.5 diopters steep and then truncating it allows good circulation under the lens plus correct orientation.
