NEW SCLERAL LENS FITTING SYSTEM
BostonSight recently introduced BostonSight Scleral, a lens and fitting system for more easily fitting patients with scleral lenses that virtually eliminates any modifications. The system was developed based on six years of patient data from approximately 7,000 eyes.
BostonSight Scleral offers the first fitting system with right- and left-eye anatomical designs, according to BostonSight. Available in 18.0mm, 18.5mm, and 19.0mm diameter designs, it uses a single starting point regardless of a patient’s condition. The nonprofit says that its BostonSight Scleral is also the first scleral lens to provide front-surface eccentricity options, including a quadrant-specific toric peripheral haptic system. BostonSight Scleral lenses are also available for order in astigmatic powers up to 6.00D.
In addition to the fitting system, practices will use BostonSight’s three-part program called Beyond the Fit for ongoing lens ordering and patient support:
FitConnect – an intuitive, Web-based fitting and order management system.
FitAssist – a lens voucher program, which allows BostonSight Scleral practitioners to provide their patients with financial assistance.
MyFitReport – a Patient-Generated Health Data (PGHD) program that provides practitioners with valuable patient-specific feedback.
The BostonSight Scleral fitting system has no startup costs and requires no extensive training or special equipment. Qualified practices receive complimentary 22-lens diagnostic sets and online training webinars. To sign up a practice, register at www.BostonSightSCLERAL.org or call 888-SCLERAL. ■
NEW DAILY DISPOSABLE FOR ASTIGMATISM
Bausch + Lomb (B+L) has introduced Biotrue Oneday for Astigmatism daily disposable contact lenses. Similar to Biotrue Oneday and Biotrue Oneday for Presbyopia, Biotrue Oneday for Astigmatism utilizes Surface Active Technology. This technology uses a large volume of hydrophilic polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), a water-loving molecule, and Poloxamer 407, a surface active macromer, to form a dehydration barrier that helps the lens maintain 98% of its moisture for up to 16 hours, according to the company.
The lenses are manufactured in nesofilcon A material with a water content of 78% and oxygen transmissibility of 42 Dk/t at –3.00D. They have a base curve of 8.4mm and a diameter of 14.5mm. The lenses will initially be available in powers of plano to –4.25D (in 0.25D steps), with cylinder powers of –0.75D and –1.25D in axes of 10°, 20°, 70°, 80°, 90°, 100°, 110°, 160°, 170°, and 180°. An expanded range will be available later this year. Call (800) 828-9030 or visit www.bausch.com . ■

Johnson & Johnson Vision (J&J Vision) announced the U.S. launch of Acuvue Oasys 1-Day Brand Contact Lenses for Astigmatism, a daily disposable contact lens featuring Blink-Stabilized Lens Design, which harnesses the natural power of the eyelids to help keep the lens in the correct position, and HydraLuxe, which includes tear-like molecules and highly breathable hydrated silicone that integrate with the patient’s own tear film, according to the company.
The lenses are available in the following parameters: plano to –6.00D (in 0.25D steps), with cylinder powers of –0.75D, –1.25D, and –1.75D in around-the-clock axes in 10° increments and –2.25D in against-the-rule and with-the-rule axes; –6.50D to –9.00D (in 0.50D steps), with cylinder powers of –0.75D, –1.25D, and –1.75D in against-the-rule and with-the-rule axes; and +0.25D to +4.00D (in 0.25D steps), with cylinder powers of –0.75D, –1.25D, and –1.75D in against-the-rule and with-the-rule axes.
