This time of year becomes both exciting and hectic as we think toward the close of the calendar. Halloween last month followed by Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s bring both excitement and stress at the same time. The year has gone by rapidly, but it is never too late to reminisce about important events that have transpired as we both reflect back and look forward in our personal and professional lives.
As you know, it has been our tradition for many years to reflect back upon the year prior and to report an “Event of the Year” in the January issue of Contact Lens Spectrum. The event of the year is something that we believe to be monumental in the field of contact lenses—either for good or for bad. For example, in 2018, we recognized the myopia initiative within the ophthalmic community; in 2017, we recognized the “attack on the integrity of the contact lens prescription”; and in 2016, we recognized “the year of the independent contact lens labs.”
What has been remarkable in 2019? Are there initiatives or practice patterns that will revolutionize the field of contact lenses? Have new ways to treat anterior segment or corneal disease been studied or introduced that will have a substantial impact on our ability to care for our patients?
As always, we would love to hear from you. Please email us your thoughts and send nominations for the 2019 Contact Lens Event of the Year to jason.nichols@pentavisionmedia.com.
