Contact Lens Spectrum (CLS) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as an associate editor for CLS. This unique role combines editorial leadership with active involvement in the Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS), the premier educational event for specialty contact lens practitioners.

Reports To: editor-in-chief/program chair
Responsibilities (associate editor, Contact Lens Spectrum):
- Lead the editorial team in developing high-quality, informative content for Contact Lens Spectrum, including original feature articles and original columns. Some content may be peer-reviewed, and some content may be continuing education approved.
- Assist with the management of the editorial calendar, soliciting articles from leading experts in the field.
- Assist in overseeing the editorial process, ensuring accuracy, clarity, appropriate referencing, and adherence to CLS style guidelines.
- Works collaboratively with authors to refine their work to ensure it meets publication standards.
- Edit and proofread content for grammar, style, technical accuracy, and referencing.
- Stay up to date on the latest advancements in specialty contact lenses and related fields.
- Identify emerging trends and topics of interest to the readership.
- Generate content ideas and develop strategies to expand the CLS reach and influence.
- Represent Contact Lens Spectrum at industry events and conferences.
Responsibilities (vice chair, Global Specialty Lens Symposium):
- Work collaboratively with the GSLS chair and committee to develop the educational program for the annual meeting.
- Identify and recruit leading speakers on a variety of contact lens topics.
- Assist with the planning and execution of GSLS, contributing to a successful and informative event.
- Oversee specific aspects of the symposium, especially the continuing education breakout sessions or other duties as assigned by the GSLS program chair.
- Promote GSLS to potential attendees and sponsors, including, but not limited to, social media platforms.
- Attend the GSLS meeting in person and contribute to post-event evaluations and the planning of future symposia.
Qualifications:
- Required: At least 10-year post-terminal clinical doctoral degree (doctor of optometry, doctor of medicine). Preferred: residency, advanced practice fellowship, and/or graduate training in clinical research.
- Minimum five years of experience in scientific or medical editing for reputable publications (both peer- and non-peer reviewed).
- In-depth knowledge of the contact lens field.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience attending and participating in industry conferences is preferred.
