Safilens expanded its product range with Delivery Ribo, a contact lens designed for those who constantly engage in activities in front of digital devices. According to the company, the lenses provide accommodative support to limit visual stress and protect the cornea, crystalline lens and retina from the harmful wavelengths of high-energy vision (HEV) light through the release of dedicated Lachryceuticals.
Delivery Ribo are lenses that release riboflavin, vitamin E-TPGS, hyaluronic acid and TSP. Vitamin E-TPGS is a permeation enhancer that allows the substances released to be diffused in both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. Combined, riboflavin or vitamin B2 and vitamin E-TPGS protect the cornea, crystalline lens and retina, because they shield the ocular surface from UV and HEV light, protecting the retina and superficial epithelial cells from UV radiation damage, according to the company. Additionally, Safilens notes that both TSP (tamarind seed polysaccharide) and hyaluronic acid are natural polysaccharides frequently used in artificial tears and, with their lubricating, mucus-mimicking and mucus-adhesive properties, contribute to stabilizing the tear film and improving tolerability and comfort of contact lenses.
The vifilcon C lenses have a 14.10 mm diameter, a 8.60 mm base curve, and a central thickness of 0.06 mm. They are available in the following powers: 0 to –6.00 D (in 0.25 D steps), –6.50 to –12.00 D (in 0.50 D steps), +0.25 to +4.00 D (in 0.25 D steps), and +4.50 to +7.00 D (in 0.50 D steps).
