Silicone Hydrogel Daily Disposable Launches in United States
As was reported in the July News Spectrum, Vistakon received clearance in June from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market narafilcon B under the name 1-Day Acuvue TruEye Brand Contact Lenses. 1-Day TruEye is the first silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lens in the United States. The company says that narafilcon B is a next generation, high-performance silicone hydrogel material that is combined with Hydraclear 1, an improved formulation of the company's Hydra-clear technology, as well as the highest level of UV protection in a contact lens. The material has a water content of 48 percent and a Dk/t of 65.
1-Day TruEye parameters include 8.5mm base curve; 14.2mm diameter; sphere powers from −0.50D to −6.00D in 0.25D increments, −6.50D to −12.00D in 0.50D increments, and +0.50D to +6.00D in 0.25D increments; and center thickness of 0.085mm at −3.00D. It is available in both 30-packs and 90-packs and is recommended for daily replacement. Call (800) 874-5278 or visit www.jnjvisioncare.com/trueye.
Parameter Expansion for Mini Scleral
Blanchard Contact Lens, Inc. has added a larger 18.0mm diameter as an option for its MSD (Mini Scleral Design) lens. The lens also remains available in the original 15.8mm diameter. The company has also revamped the trial set for the MSD. Designed to be a more efficient fitting tool, according to the company, the new set contains 30 lenses in 10 sag depth values ranging from 3.80mm to 5.60mm in 0.20mm steps (200 microns). Three midperipheral/limbal clearance values (increased, decreased, and standard) are represented for each. Trial sets are available in non-fenestrated and fenestrated designs, although the company strongly recommends non-fenestrated. Call (800) 367-4009 or visit www.blanchardlab.com.

New MPS Available in United States
As was reported in the July News Spectrum, Bausch + Lomb recently launched Biotrue multipurpose solution across the United States. B+L says that Biotrue is bio-inspired to work like the eyes to help lenses stay clean and moist throughout the day.
Biotrue uses a dual disinfection system of polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) plus polyquaternium-1, which the company says offers unsurpassed disinfection efficacy that exceeds FDA/ISO stand-alone procedure for disinfecting products. Biotrue's pH is 7.5, which matches that of healthy tears and is designed to cause little physiological change when introduced to the eye. B+L says the pH also enhances the performance of the dual disinfectants.
Biotrue also contains hyaluronan (HA), a lubricant found throughout the body, including in tears and the corneal epithelium, to help keep contact lenses moist, stabilize the tear film, and reduce friction.
Biotrue is formulated to keep native proteins such as lysozyme and lactoferrin from denaturing, which helps them maintain their natural antimicrobial activity and helps prevent discomfort from protein deposition. Call (800) 828-9030 or visit www.bausch.com.

A Biocompatible and Greener Lens
Marietta Vision now offers the new Bio Contact Lens, which features high definition aberration control optics in a GMA/Hioxifilcon material. Marietta Vision claims that the lens is being promoted as a “bio” friendly lens because it features a biocompatible contact lens material and a box made with very little dye out of recycled paper that is biodegradable. The Bio lens is thin, but durable and uses 30 percent less raw materials compared to other contact lens brands, according to Marietta Vision.
Parameters include 8.5mm base curve; 14.1mm diameter; and sphere powers from −12.00D to +6.00D, 0.50D steps above −6.00D and +4.00D. Call (866) 300-6257 or visit www.mariettavision.com.
