Daily Disposable With HA Launches in U.S.
Safigel has launched in the United States its Safigel 1 Day disposable daily wear contact lens, which features sodium hyaluronate incorporated into the lens matrix.
The company says that the Safigel 1 Day contact lens remains continually hydrated because of the hydrophilic properties of the hyaluronate gel. Every one molecule of HA in the lens attracts 3,000 molecules of water, creating natural tears on both sides of the contact lens, according to Safigel. The company says that wearing Safigel 1 Day is like having a lubricating eye drop on the contact lens all the time.
Safigel 1 Day is manufactured in methafilcon A with a reported Dk/t of 40 at −3.00D, a UV inhibitor, and an aspheric front surface. Parameters include 8.6mm base curve; 14.0mm diameter; powers of −0.50D to −6.00D in 0.25D steps, −6.00D to −8.00D in 0.50D steps, +0.50D to +2.00D in 0.25D steps, and +2.50D to +4.00D in 0.50D steps; and center thickness of 0.08mm at −3.00D.
Safigel 1 day is the first lens in the United States to incorporate Sodium Hyaluronate.
Safilens has been selling contact lenses in Europe for the past five years under the Safe-Gel brand name. Now with FDA approval, Safigel has set up operations in the United States. Call (877) SAF-IGEL (723-4435) or visit www.safigel.com.
SynergEyes Enhances Multifocal Design
SynergEyes has introduced a slight modification to its SynergEyes Multifocal lens that the company says enhances comfort and wearability for patients who have normal corneas. The modification, called the Peripheral Blend, is now available in all lens parameters.
The Peripheral Blend modification slightly flattens the lens at the GP periphery and the soft skirt to create a less pronounced landing zone across a broader area of the peripheral cornea. SynergEyes says that patients who have small corneas, corneas with high eccentricity values, and any patient experiencing discomfort, tightness, or removal issues when all other parameters are optimized will benefit from the Peripheral Blend modification. Enhanced Dry Eye Relief
Eye Eco, Inc. has introduced Thermoeyes Beads for its Tranquileyes Eye Hydrating Therapy goggles. The Beads are gel packs that are heated in the microwave or in hot water and inserted into the goggles. The company says that the extra heat helps open the meibomian glands and that users will experience noticeable relief in just 15 minutes of use. The new Beads can also be placed in the freezer for 15 minutes to create soothing cold compresses to reduce lid puffiness and inflammation, according to the company.
The Thermoeyes Beads add extra heat to the Tranquileyes goggles for dry eye relief.
The Thermoeyes Beads are reusable and non-toxic, made from glycerin and water. Each gel pack will provide approximately 50 heat treatments. Call (888) 730-7999 or visit www.eyeeco.com.
New Eye Health Supplement Available
Valensa International has introduced Eye Pro MD, a new eye health formulation that the company says combines the leading eye health ingredients in a single, easy-to-use product. The new formulation contains the carotenoids astaxanthin, lutein, and zeaxanthin and features a proprietary omega-3/phospholipid delivery system as well as Vitamin D3. The formulation has been developed based on the results from the CARMIS clinical trial (Carotenoids and Antioxidant in Age Related Maculopathy Italian Study) that were reported in the journal Ophthalmology in 2008 and in other studies.
Astaxanthin is know to cross the blood-brain/ blood-retina barrier and preferentially resides in the central foveal region of the macula. The company says that published research points to astaxanthin's dramatic reduction of light-induced oxidative stress processes that damage cells and associated cellular mechanisms. Valensa International also notes that research has found evidence for inverse associations between age-related macular degeneration and higher serum Vitamin D levels.
