New Scleral Available
Metro Optics, Inc. recently released its Genesis Scleral lens, which the company says provides a powerful and dependable system for addressing irregular corneas where other modalities cannot provide a stable fit or good visual acuity.
The lens is available in two main series: Genesis 156 (mini-scleral), with a 15.6mm overall diameter (OAD); and Genesis 182, with an 18.2mm OAD. Both are designed to create a significant tear pool around the cornea.
A variety of diagnostic sets are available for general or specialty fitting. The diagnostic kits feature a versatile selection of lenses that allow the design to be fit on a wide range of cases, including keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, corneal transplant, post-refractive surgery, post trauma, and severe dry eye, according to the company.
Genesis Scleral is manufactured exclusively in Boston XO (Bausch + Lomb) material. Additional parameters include unlimited base curves, diameters of 13.5mm to 24.0mm, cylinders of −0.25D to −8.00D in 0.25D steps in axes of 1° to 180° in 5° steps, and powers from +50.00D to −75.00D in 0.25D steps. Toric scleral zones are available to improve scleral alignment. A front toric option is available when needed. All Genesis 156 and 182 lenses use aspheric optics to reduce spherical aberrations. VISIONEERING TECHNOLOGIES’ NATURALVUE MULTIFOCAL 1 DAY CAN CORRECT UP TO +3.00D WITH A SINGLE UNIVERSAL ADD POWER.
Daily Disposable Multifocal Launches
Visioneering Technologies, Inc. (VTI) has launched NaturalVue Multifocal 1 Day contact lenses with Neurofocus Optics. VTI says that the Neurofocus Optics technology allows the visual cortex to “autocorrect” what wearers see, optimizing visual clarity and enabling spectacle level stereoacuity for greater depth perception. The lens offers excellent vision at all distances without relying on readers, according to the company.
The design features one universal add power that generates up to 3.00D equivalent near power, which VTI says encompasses add power requirements from +0.75D to +3.00D. The single add power allows the lens to be fit like a single-vision spherical lens, with an 89% fitting success rate, according to the company.
The NaturalVue Multifocal 1 Day is manufactured in etafilcon A and features a Class 2 UV blocker. Parameters include 8.5mm base curve, 14.5mm diameter, and initial launch powers of −0.50D to −6.25D. It is available in 90-packs, 30-packs, and 10-lens trial packs. The launch began in the Southeastern region, with national rollout soon to follow. SiHy Multifocal Parameter Expansion
CooperVision, Inc. recently expanded powers for its Biofinity Multifocal lens to now range from +6.00D to −10.00D. The new powers include −8.50D, −9.00D, −9.50D, and −10.00D in +1.00D, +1.50D, +2.00D, and +2.50D add powers in both D and N lens designs. The new powers are available in dispensing six-packs and in single trial lenses. Call (800) 341-2020 or visit www.coopervision.com.
SiHy Multifocal and Multifocal Toric Lens
ABB Optical Group now offers the Definitive Multifocal and Definitive Multifocal Toric. These patented lenses are designed with a central near zone and concentric zones that accommodate changes in lighting as well as near, intermediate, and distance vision, according to ABB Optical Group.
The base curve geometry is made up of a spherical optic zone and an aspheric periphery. The aspheric front curve has multiple optic zones. A back-toric design with a prism ballast is marked with an engraved dot at 270º.
The lens is manufactured in the Filcon V3 material and has a water content of 74%. Base curves (BCs) are available from 7.5mm to 9.3mm in 0.3mm steps. The standard multifocal BCs are 8.1mm, 8.4mm, and 8.7mm; standard multifocal toric BCs are 8.4mm, 8.7mm, and 9.0mm. Standard lens diameters are 14.2mm and 14.5mm, but the lens is available in diameters from 13.5mm to 15.5mm. At −3.00DS, the center thickness is 0.15mm, and the optic zone is 8.00mm. Sphere powers range from +10.00D to −20.00D in 0.25D steps. Low add is available up to +2.25DS, and high add is available up to +2.75DS. Cylinder power is available up to −4.50D.
