SiHy DD Lens with Tear-Infused Design

Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. (JJVCI) has announced the launch of a new lens with a tear-infused design, Acuvue Oasys Brand Contact Lenses 1-Day with HydraLuxe Technology, designed to provide excellent comfort and vision throughout a day full of activities. JJVCI says that this lens is designed to help keep contact lens wearers comfortable throughout their demanding days. The lens features:

• Tear-infused material, complementing the natural tear film with an enhanced network of tear-like molecules (PVP), that integrates with contact lens wearers’ own tear film each day.

• Electrolyte-balanced packaging solution to mimic human tears.

• Enlarged optics to help wearers to see clearly even when their pupils may be enlarged due to low light.

• Increased lens diameter to ensure full corneal limbus coverage during blinking.

Acuvue Oasys 1-Day lenses are manufactured in senofilcon A material, which has a 38% water content and a reported Dk of 121 (for –3.00D lens). Parameters include base curves of 8.5mm and 9.0mm; 14.3mm diameter; power ranges (both base curves) of –0.50D to –6.00D (0.25D steps), –6.50D to –12.00D (0.50D steps), +0.50D to +6.00D (0.25D steps), and +6.50D to +8.00D (0.50D steps); and a center thickness of 0.085mm for –0.50D to –12.00D (varies for +0.50D to +8.00D). Best Fit Analysis Report Added to Ocular Measurement Device

Volk Optical has expanded the capabilities of its Volk Eye Check portable ophthalmic exam tool with the addition of a Best Fit Analysis Report to its Contact Lens (CL) Mode. Volk Eye Check’s CL Mode provides measurements including horizontal visible iris diameter (HVID), pupil diameter, and sagittal depth.

Using Volk Eye Check measurements, Best Fit Analysis generates a patient-specific report, recommending the most appropriate lenses by brand and type. Best Fit Reports identify patients suitable for specialty lenses and increase first-time fit rates, according to Volk Optical. Practitioners are able to select the exact brand and dimensional specifications of the standard or specialty lenses required. For more difficult and custom cases, the reports can be sent directly to contact lens manufacturers to aid in the fitting process.

Enhanced Design for Mini-Scleral Lens

Blanchard Contact Lenses has announced design enhancements for its Onefit scleral lens, with the design now being offered as a platform.

With a trial set composed of only 14 lenses, practitioners can fit normal prolate corneas, astigmatism, mild-to-moderate irregular corneas, multifocals, and oblate corneas (including oblate multifocal and toric optics). The Onefit Platform offers a thinner lens profile, meeting Holden Mertz criteria for optimum oxygenation of the cornea and limbal stem cells for long-term corneal health and integrity, according to Blanchard.

Third-Generation Tonometer Measures Corneal Hysteresis

Reichert Technologies recently launched its Ocular Response Analyzer G3, the only tonometer capable of measuring corneal hysteresis, a superior predictor of glaucoma progression, according to Reichert. The company says that a low corneal hysteresis measurement has been shown to be a glaucoma progression risk factor.

The Ocular Response Analyzer G3 also provides the patented Corneal Compensated IOP (IOPcc) measurement, which the company claims is a better indication of the true pressure compared to Goldmann or other methods of tonometry.

Questionnaire Assesses AMD Risk

SightRisk USA, exclusively distributed by MacuHealth Distribution Ltd., recently launched its cloud-based algorithm to eyecare professionals.

SightRisk USA was developed through the collaboration of a team of research scientists who assessed and documented both modifiable lifestyle and non-modifiable risk factors of thousands of patients who were diagnosed with AMD as well as through a detailed review of more than 300 published scientific manuscripts. The proprietary algorithm behind the SightRisk questionnaire prioritizes, compiles, and weighs the risk factors based on a patient’s answers, creating a report that eyecare professionals and staff can review with their patients. The company says that this report will help identify young and healthy patients who have risk profiles and who, through consultation and practitioner recommendations, may delay or even prevent the onset of blindness from age-related macular degeneration (AMD) later in life.

“Entry-Level” Mask for Dry Eye Relief
