EDITOR’S PERSPECTIVE
A TIMELESS QUESTION: HOW CAN WE DO BETTER?
JASON J. NICHOLS, OD, MPH, PHD
As 2016 draws to a close, I think it is important to reflect back on all of the successes we have had both professionally and individually over the course of the past year. There is no question that there have been some very exciting developments in the field of contact lenses that we can indeed celebrate. We have seen exciting new product launches that help introduce new technologies to our patients. We have also seen developments in diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities that also directly advance our ability to care for our patients. While we celebrate these advances, there have also been some experiences from which we should reflect and build upon, which is an important step for growth in many regards.
I recently attended a professional meeting and had the opportunity to interact with many colleagues as well as executives from many companies that either directly or indirectly work in the contact lens market. While the enthusiasm for growth in the contact lens field was striking, the tone from these meetings was also one of “how can we do better?” While perhaps a bit surprising at first, I found this tone to be refreshing. Upon further reflection, I think it is important that we all think along these lines in both personal and professional aspects of our lives. How can we do better in our work? In the care of our patients? In the practice and fitting of contact lenses?
From all of us at Contact Lens Spectrum, we wish you and yours the happiest of holiday seasons.
