THE NEW ACUVUE VITA LENS IS DESIGNED TO RESOLVE THE COMFORT ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH MONTHLY REPLACEMENT LENSES.
New Monthly SiHy Lens
Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Inc. (JJVCI) recently announced the U.S. launch of the Acuvue Vita Brand, a 30-day contact lens with HydraMax Technology. Acuvue Vita is a non-coated silicone hydrogel formulation that helps with discomfort-related issues that are common with monthly lens wearers, according to the company.
Acuvue Vita is manufactured in senofilcon C, which is designed to integrate the optimal density and distribution of beneficial lipids throughout this lens—to help maintain lens hydration with a reduced evaporation rate—while maintaining a low deposition profile, according to JJVCI.
Acuvue Vita lenses are available with a 14.0mm diameter and base curves of 8.4mm and 8.8mm. A –3.00D lens has a center thickness of 0.07mm, a water content of 41%, and a Dk/t of 147. Available powers include –0.50D to –6.00D in 0.25D steps, –6.50D to –12.00D in 0.50D steps, +0.50D to +6.00D in 0.25D steps, and +6.50D to +8.00D in 0.50D steps. New Options in Scleral Lens Line
As reported in last month’s News Spectrum, Blanchard Contact Lenses has expanded its Onefit line of scleral lenses with the Onefit A design for Asian eyes. In addition, the company also now offers a new feature called XLC, which stands for Extra Limbal Clearance, for its Onefit Scleral Lens Platform.
Onefit A is specifically designed for Asian corneas that have a normal prolate profile, irregular corneas, post-graft corneas (prolate), Forme Fruste keratoconus, and post-refractive surgery corneas. Parameters include base curves from 7.0mm to 9.0mm in 0.10mm increments; diameters of 14.4mm, 14.7mm (standard), and 15.0mm; powers of +20.00D to –20.00D in 0.25D increments; cylinders in any axis; a D Lens (distance) and an N Lens (near) for correcting presbyopia; edge lifts of Standard, Steep 1, Steep 2, or Flat 1; and oblate: central clearance reduction 70 microns (CCR 70), CCR 110, and CCR 150.
Blanchard says that XLC is a new option that will make the existing trial set of standard 14.9mm lenses even easier to work with by providing a simple solution for obtaining the extra limbal clearance needed without increasing the lens diameter. Blanchard developed the XLC option to ensure that the lens diameter, central clearance, power, and the landing on the sclera do not change, while offering more limbal clearance due to steeper midperipheral curves (or reverse curves). The Onefit A lens already incorporates the XLC option. Call (800) 367-4009 or visit www.blanchardlab.com.
AREDS2 and Multivitamin Combined
Bausch + Lomb (B+L) has introduced PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula + Multivitamin, which combines the National Eye Institute’s (NEI) Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2) formula with other essential vitamins and minerals typically found in daily multivitamins. This convenient 2-in-1 formula is designed to make it simpler for consumers to take their supplements by reducing the number of pills taken each day.
PreserVision is based on the NEI’s AREDS and AREDS2 studies. In those studies, the NEI recommends that people who have moderate-to-advanced age-related macular degeneration take a supplement with a specific combination of antioxidants and zinc. B+L says that the new product is beta carotene-free and contains a high level of Vitamin D to support the needs of older adults.
PreserVision AREDS 2 Formula + Multivitamin is available in major retailers, including Walgreens, Rite Aid, Kroger, and Amazon. Call (800) 828-9030 or visit www.preservision.com.
