NEW CUSTOMIZABLE SCLERAL LENS FOR IRREGULAR CORNEAS
Blanchard Contact Lenses has unveiled its latest scleral lens design, Onefit Med. With a standard diameter of just 15.6mm, Blanchard says that Onefit Med is a fully customizable scleral lens for the highly irregular, medically indicated cornea, including numerous applications such as nipple and oval cones, post-RK, post-LASIK, ocular surface disease, pellucid marginal degeneration, and more. Practitioners control the design and fit by selecting the parameter options for four separate fitting zones—central, midperipheral, limbal, and edge.
With an instinctive online fitting tool, customizing and calculating the final lens order is simple, according to the company. The design serves as its own platform from which multifocal, oblate, and front-toric geometries can be ordered. Just like the Onefit Scleral Lens Platform, Onefit Med minimizes both lens thickness and tear layer to maximize oxygen transmission to the cornea and stem cells for long-term ocular health, according to Blanchard.
The lenses are available in diameters of 15.6mm (standard) with sagittal heights between 3,800 to 6,200 microns in 50-micron steps; 16.0mm with sag heights between 3,800 to 6,600 microns in 50-micron steps; and 16.4mm with sag heights between 4,000 to 6,600 microns in 50-micron steps. They have a midperipheral clearance of +200 to –200 microns in 25-micron steps, a limbal clearance of +200 to –200 microns in 25-micron steps, and an edge value of +200 to –200 microns in 25-micron steps. TOUCH SCREEN ADDED TO INSTRUMENT FOR ANALYZING DIGITAL QUALITY
Visiometrics has added a Touch Screen Package to its HD Analyzer. The new upgrade option increases ease of use and reduces the system footprint for better practice workflow, according to the company.
The HD Analyzer provides objective measurement of visual quality to help improve patient outcomes in cataract diagnosis, dry eye treatment, and refractive surgery. The onboard touch screen replaces the laptop required to perform patient exams. With the screen mounted directly on the back of the HD Analyzer unit, Visiometrics says that the entire system can be confined to one small table.
An additional benefit of the HD Analyzer is its impact as a patient education tool to facilitate discussion of treatment plans and outcomes, according to the company. The visual reporting provides a reference point that can help patients to better understand how a condition is affecting their vision. The flat screen display can be removed for patient discussions, with easier navigation and handling than with the laptop version, according to the company.
The Touch Screen Package includes a Surface Pro tablet, preloaded with Visiometrics HD Analyzer software, screen holders, and an installation kit. The package can be purchased with a new HD Analyzer system or as an upgrade to an existing system. The Touch Screen Package is currently only available to users in the United States.
Visiometrics is currently offering incentives to purchase the Touch Screen Package when purchased with its HD Analyzer Total Care Warranty. Both the Touch Screen Package and Total Care Warranty can be purchased online at www.Visiometrics.com/shop . ■
DRY EYE RELIEF COMBINED WITH LID HYGIENE
Bruder Healthcare now offers Bruder Hygienic Eyelid Sheets, which the company says can be used together with its Bruder Moist Heat Eye Compress. The company says that this combination helps improve patient compliance with the regimen of moist heat followed by gentle lid cleansing to help maintain healthy lids and relieve dry eye.
Bruder says that, when heated, the Bruder Moist Heat Compress moistens the untreated sheet. The specially designed, micro-fine sheets are designed to cleanse oil, debris, and/or makeup from eyelids and lashes. Bruder also says that the cleansing sheets help to enhance moist heat penetration and keep the compress clean. The sheets are non-irritating and no-mess, according to the company.
