X-Cel Specialty Contacts now offers the Toricolors Comfort Cosmetic Lens, an opaque frequent replacement toric contact lens that is the outcome of a partnership between PolyDev Ltd. and X-Cel Specialty Contacts. PolyDev is based in Ireland and has world-class expertise in the design and production of cosmetic contact lenses, according to X-Cel.

Toricolors is a monthly replacement lens powered by Extreme H2O Toric LC (low cylinder) and Extreme H2O Toric MC (mid cylinder) lenses. Toricolors are manufactured in 46% hioxifilcon D (54% water, Dk = 21), a patented ultra-hydrating material that provides patients with comfort throughout the entire wearing period, according to the company. Available colors are Seabreeze Blue, Emerald Green, Golden Amber, and Horizon Grey. Parameters include 8.6mm base curve, 14.2mm diameter, and sphere powers of plano to –4.00D (0.25D steps up to –2.50D and 0.50D steps from –2.50D to –4.00D) in both cylinder powers. Allergan plc announced the official launch of TrueTear, an FDA-cleared device developed to temporarily increase tear production in adult patients. TrueTear is a handheld neurostimulation device with disposable tips that is inserted into the nasal cavity to temporarily induce the production of natural tears. TrueTear provides tiny pulses of energy within the nasal cavity to create tears and may be appropriate for most patients who have inadequate tear production, according to Allergan.

Alcon introduced Systane Complete, a new formula designed to provide soothing relief for every major type of dry eye. According to the company, Systane Complete uses intelligent moisture and lipid delivery to enhance delivery of the active ingredient across the surface of the eye and to stabilize the tear film. Its nano-droplet technology allows for fast-acting hydration, tear evaporation protection, and long-lasting relief for a patient’s eyes.
