VISIONEERING TECHNOLOGIES EXPANDS NATURALVUE LENS OFFERINGS
Visioneering Technologies Inc. (VTI) recently introduced its new enhanced NaturalVue (etafilcon A) Sphere 1 Day Contact Lenses with CleanComfort technology. To ensure better comfort, three ingredients have been added to the packaged saline solution, giving the lens what VTI calls a “TripleTear Lubrication System.” The new ingredients include hyaluronic acid (HA), which has been shown to provide superior hydration and lubrication, as well as elements known to lock-in moisture and stabilize tears, according to the company.
The new edge on the NaturalVue Sphere is designed to balance movement for a more optimal fit while still allowing adequate tear exchange to wash away debris, according to the company. There is also a Class 2 UV blocker. Parameters include 8.5mm base curve, 14.2mm diameter, and powers from +4.00D to –12.00D in 0.25D steps.
VTI also recently announced the availability of NaturalVue Multifocal 1 Day Contact Lenses in plus powers. VTI says that this expansion of plus powers gives NaturalVue Multifocal the most extensive power range available of any daily disposable soft multifocal contact lenses currently on the market. The full power range of the lens is now from +4.00D to –12.25D (in 0.25D steps). A further expansion up to +6.00D is planned for the future. Other parameters include 8.3mm base curve, 14.5mm diameter, and a universal extended depth of focus design encompassing up to +3.00D add power. RIGHTEYE UNVEILS EYEQ TRAINER
RightEye LLC unveiled its new EyeQ Trainer computer-based vision rehabilitation program. RightEye EyeQ tests are quick, gamified tests that provide information on how a patient’s eyes and brain are working together. The EyeQ Trainer allows eyecare professionals to prescribe targeted, at-home vision exercises to help improve and strengthen areas of weakness. RightEye EyeQ Trainer integrates with EyeQ reports—offering personalized recommendations for improvement for each patient, according to the company.
Through a series of simple exercises conducted on a personal computer or tablet with an internet connection during which patients engage in specific eye movements, RightEye EyeQ Trainer activates the eyes’ muscles as well as key elements of brain circuitry; the circuitry activation results in better functional vision and smoother and more accurate eye movements that directly impact quality of life, according to the company. Exercises take about five minutes per sitting, which the patient does once or twice per day for several weeks. Once patients have completed their prescribed training program, they return to their practitioner’s practice to be retested with the corresponding RightEye EyeQ test. NOVARTIS LAUNCHES FOCALVIEW APP
Novartis announced the launch of its FocalView app, an ophthalmic digital research platform created with ResearchKit. FocalView aims to allow researchers to track disease progression by collecting real-time, self-reported data directly from consenting patients. FocalView aims to help patients complete various assessments, gaining feedback on their visual function, including any changes over time. At the same time, the app could provide researchers with a greater volume of real-world, patient-reported data, according to the company. FocalView is now available for download from the App Store in the Unites States. ■
