As I wrote this column, we were on the verge of our 12th annual Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS), which took place in Las Vegas from Jan. 22 to 25, 2020. Without a doubt, this was our largest and most exciting meeting yet! While Contact Lens Spectrum will provide extensive editorial coverage of the meeting in the next few months, it is hard to not express enthusiasm for the meeting otherwise. This year’s meeting covered specialty lens topics ranging from myopia management to sclerals, ocular surface disease, neuropathic pain, and much, much more.
Perhaps the most exciting development associated with GSLS 2020 was the announcement of a new meeting entirely focused on myopia and its management—the Global Myopia Symposium! In addition to myself, the program committee will consist of Jeff Walline, OD, PhD; Kate Gifford, PhD, BAppSc(Optom)Hons; Lyndon Jones, PhD, DSc, FCOptom; and Shalu Pal, OD—all of whom are among the world’s top experts in both the clinical and research aspects of myopia management. This meeting will take place at the GSLS 2021 in Las Vegas, and while it will have the feeling of GSLS, it will be its own standalone event such that myopia can be comprehensively covered in a single meeting, as it should be. We are tremendously excited to announce this new meeting, and we look forward to its evolution and to your involvement in the years to come. Stay tuned for more information over the coming months.
