TOPCON LAUNCHES CHRONOS IN U.S. MARKET
Topcon Healthcare has launched the Chronos Automated Binocular Refraction System in the U.S. market. Topcon Chronos is a complete digital refraction solution that combines autorefraction, keratometry, and subjective refraction in a single device that occupies less than four feet of space, according to the company. Topcon says that the fully automated system, which features the guided refraction software, SightPilot, can be easily operated by anyone in the practice and that binocular testing allows eyecare providers to see more patients and grow their practice without adding exam lanes or trained technicians.
Chronos can be controlled from a laptop, tablet, or desktop computer from a safe distance or from another room, according to the company. Topcon says that the SightPilot software guides operators through the entire refraction process with a simple user interface and on-screen prompts, enabling the practice to quickly and confidently complete the subjective refraction.
Topcon also says that Chronos is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant and simple to adjust; whether seated, standing, or in a wheelchair, its multifunction capabilities allow patients to complete the exam without moving to multiple instruments. VALLEY CONTAX AND OVITZ CORP. LAUNCH ARES HOA-CORRECTING SCLERAL LENS
Valley Contax and Ovitz Corporation announced their partnership in launching the new Ares higher-order aberration (HOA)-correcting scleral contact lens. The Ares Lens coupled with the Ovitz Xwave aberrometry system is the world’s first fully automated and streamlined HOA correction solution, according to the companies. Valley Contax and Ovitz say that using this new fitting system, the data is automatically converted to calibrated lathe software that precisely matches the original HOA measurements, with an average patient success rate better than 97%.
With a bi-symmetrical toric landing zone, this lens aligns to the sclera naturally and provides excellent comfort and customization, according to the companies. The Ares lens is available in an oblate design as well as a prolate design for ectasia and more pronounced cones.
Valley Contax and Ovitz say that good candidates for the Ares scleral lens include patients who have complex vision abnormalities arising from HOAs such as those who have keratoconus, post-surgical complications, injuries resulting in corneal irregularity, and high ametropia; patients who cannot get clear/satisfying 20/20 vision with conventional contact lenses; and normal cornea patients who want to further improve their vision beyond 20/20.
