From April 6-8, professionals across the optical industry gathered in Clearwater, Florida, for the Accredited Standards Committee for Ophthalmic Optics (ASC) Z80 spring meeting. ASC Z80 is the only entity accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop national standards in the ophthalmic optics field.
As an accredited standards committee operating under ANSI, ASC Z80 establishes and updates more than 20 standards that support ophthalmic devices, equipment, and optical products. Members from across the ophthalmic optics community participated in the multi-day sessions, contributing their technical expertise and industry insights across a broad range of topics, including sunglasses, frames, contact lenses, medical ophthalmic devices, and instruments.
Subcommittee meetings held included Subcommittee SC2 – Non-Prescription Eyewear and Over the Counter Readers; Subcommittee SC3 – Frames; Subcommittee SC4 – Medical Ophthalmic Devices; Subcommittee SC6 – Ophthalmic Instruments and Low Vision Devices; and Subcommittee SC7 – Contact Lenses.
