Pacific University has announced the appointment of Dr. Bisant A. Labib as the new dean of its College of Optometry.

As dean, Dr. Labib will lead efforts to expand the college’s impact in both academic and clinical settings, while upholding its long-standing reputation in optometric education.
Dr. Labib joins Pacific from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus at Drexel University, where she served as associate dean of academic affairs. In her previous roles, she oversaw curriculum and program development, directed the clinical internship program, and served as cochief of primary care services at The Eye Institute.
She holds a Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed a residency in primary care with a focus on ocular disease. Her professional accolades include:
- Fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) in 2015
- Diplomate status in the Comprehensive Eye Care section of the AAO (she was the 12th member to gain this status)
- National lecturer and regular columnist for Review of Optometry
- Widely cited author in clinical research and education
In a press release from Pacific University, Dr. Labib described the appointment as “an exciting opportunity to collaborate with an exceptional community of educators, clinicians, and students.” She plans to build on “the college’s longstanding legacy in advancing innovative, inclusive, and patient-centered optometric education.”
Pacific University Provost Dr. Barbara May said Dr. Labib “brings energy, hope and a collaborative spirit to Pacific that will be necessary as we continue to build and lift up our optometry program for another 80 years.”
