The Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) has announced the completion and publication of the third instance of its Dry Eye Workshop (DEWS III).
According to TFOS, 80 experts from 18 countries used an evidence-based approach to create the TFOS DEWS III report. The American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO) has just published this report in an open-access AJO supplement: sciencedirect.com/special-issue/10PHL822N4T.
This TFOS DEWS III report updates the recommendations and conclusions of TFOS DEWS II regarding the subclassification, diagnostic methodology, and management and therapy of dry eye disease. The TFOS DEWS III report also features a digest that highlights new advances in other TFOS DEWS II topics, including sex, gender, and hormones; epidemiology; pathophysiology; tear film; pain and sensation; iatrogenic dry eye; and clinical trial design. The executive summary of this TFOS DEWS III report will be submitted to AJO within a month and then published and linked to the supplement.
