Building off my column from last month in which I asked patients why they wear daily disposables, I turned my questioning to staff members to ask about why someone would still use reusable lenses. Here are some things to consider from the perspective of staff members who have worn daily disposable contact lenses for many years:
-
Ocular health focus. It’s very important to patients that they are able to tolerate contact lens wear as they age. No one wants to go back to wearing glasses full-time, especially when doing outdoor activities. Choosing the healthiest, most technologically advanced contact lens around assures them that we are doing what we can to preserve their ability to wear their contact lenses for a long time. This is additionally important for anyone who is exposed to a dusty, dirty, or allergic environment on a daily basis (eg, Columbus, Ohio has lots of spring allergens in the air right now!).
-
Convenience. The convenience of wearing a clean, fresh lens every day is 1 less thing added onto their nightly routine.
-
Customization. Daily disposable contact lenses make it easy and potentially less expensive when someone is trying to customize their contact lens wear for specific visual needs, such as sports, computer use, or a work trip. Advancements in contact lens technology make it possible for wearers to exceed their vision needs and expectations.
Why would someone want to compromise their vision? Most people like the latest and greatest technology, so why would their vision deserve anything different? “Good enough” is not acceptable to most when everyone needs to see their best in today’s visual world. Every contact lens patient deserves to have daily disposable contact lenses offered as their first-line option.
